THE INTERROGATOR

Four Star General of the Special Forces and decorated hero, Elijah is the head and shoulders of the Bronze Bombers. His natural skill of organizing is the essential key in being leader of the Bronze Bombers. Expert in Tae Kwon Do and high-tech weaponry, Elijah is a mental as well as a physical fighting machine. When it comes to battling the Pyros, he is a lethal adversary and not liked much by his enemies.

Elijah is the responsible brother who started and headed the African Expedition Force which brought the other seven brothers together whom later formed the Bronze Bombers.

Very well liked among his allies, Elijah is a supreme leader.

In 1994, Olmec obtained the rights to produce figures using actual Hasbro molds, and released a box set of twelve figures, sold exclusively at Toys R Us in 1997. Eight of the hero figures (called The Bronze Bombers) were made up of Hasbo bodies with new heads. The four villains (named the Pyros) were entirely Hasbro molds.

The twelve figures came packaged in one set, retailing for $14.99. The back of the box contained twelve filecards. Inside, the set also came with a large poster of the figures and filecards. Eight of the figures are part of the "Bronze Bombers - The Defenders of Justice", while four of the figures are part of "Pyro's Band of Thugs".

The boxed set came with a clear helmet for Firebomb, three white "Frag Viper" rifles, three brown "Track Viper" handguns, three brown "Tele-Viper" hand-held scanners, and three white "Darklon" rifles. The set also came with three recolored Eco-Warrior water shooting backpacks with cannons, and eight cardboard tribal shields for the Bronze Bombers.

Identifying the Bronze Bombers can be a real problem. While the filecard artwork identifies the four villains, the filecards do not help in identifying the eight Bronze Bombers heroes. Take care when purchasing or referring to these figures, as one person's "Krunch" may be another man's "Shortburst". 

The Bronze Bombers were created in 1988 by Olmec, an African-American owned toy company. Olmec was a toy company created by an African-American mother called Yla Eason, who claimed she "couldn't find a black super hero for her son." She noted that most action figures that were available were white, and so she decided to create a line of figures that her son could identify with. The result was a G.I. Joe segment with no diversity. Taking G.I. Joe and making him exclusively G.I. Bro!

The toys were even given an exaggerated, often inaccurate historical context, as the text on the cards read, "Fearlessly, the mighty U.S. 369th Infantry led the nation's greatest Black Army into battle. They fought in WWI and WWII and they never lost. There have been no warriors their equal until today! Today, we have the Bronze Bombers! Today they defend the country against P.S.B. enemy squad. These highly skilled combatants stand for justice and they never lose!"
