Rare Antique Japanese Sword Kinko Tsuba Hamano Late Edo Period Samurai Horseback
DESCRIPTION

Antique Japanese tuba. Constructed in the mock data shape this antique kinko (soft metal) tsuba is beautifully adorned with scenes of samurai warriors on both sides. On both sides it depicts a samurai warrior on horseback traversing a river with bow in hand surrounded by swirling waves with columns on the top of the tsuba. The Mei (signature) is on the left of the Nakago-ana (blade aperture) for Hamano. The Hamano family began making items in the late Edo period and continued to do so for 3 generations so this dates to the 19th century. Please do check the signature however as I am basing this information on a translation of the signature (I cannot speak or read Japanese so could not translate it myself). It has also been suggested that the maker may be Hamabayashi.

Marked: Hamano

This would make addition to any Tsuba or Japanese military collection.

MEASUREMENTS

Tsuba measures 3“ tall by 2.75" wide and weighs almost 4.4oz.

CONDITION

In good condition considering age and use with a dent on the nose of the warrior on one side and some nicks on the tsuba rim (please see all pictures as they form part of the condition description).
