King George VI came to the throne under unusual circumstances as his brother left the throne for "the woman he loved" and spared the world from a crisis as the monarch is the head of the Church of England.  George is the subject of a wonderful movie " the king's speech" which if you have not seen it depicts a birds eye view of the times and circumstances.  This is a Silver Medal, in near mint condition, of the coronation on 12 May 1937.  His reign (1936-1952) strengthened the monarchy through the Second World War and the creation of the commonwealth of nations as the sun was setting on the British Empire.  This King and Queen are the parents of the current reigning monarch of the United Kingdom and Commonwealth Countries.
