Introduced in 1983 the Nikon FM2n is the improved/updated version of the 1982 FM2 which was the successor to the original 1977 FM. All told the various versions of the FM are Nikons best selling camera ever. Instinctive to use and totally reliable, this camera uses the battery for the light meter only, all other systems are mechanical. It is highly regarded for its unique shutter with a top speed of 1/4000th of a second and a flash sync at 1/250th. Many pros with multi kilobuck systems keep one of these for an unanticipated emergency. Serial Number: 7605292 One of the premier, timeless classic and collectable SLR cameras. This one is in NEAR MINT condition, is working perfectly in every regard. Specifics of this camera:
Optical -- Exceptional. No haze, no scratches, no fungus, no marks, no spots, just a couple of pinpoint dust specks. The mirror, viewfinder, focusing screen are clean.
Mechanical -- All mechanical parts work perfectly, the bayonet mount is as new, the pressure plate is smooth and the battery compartment is clean. The shutter is perfect at all speeds, light seals are fresh and mirror foam is new. The lightmeter is right on against a Gossen Luna Pro. There are no loose or missing parts. ALL mechanical functions work just as they should.
Cosmetic -- Any use marks are small and subtle. The main sign of use is a light tripod mark on the base (see photo 6). There is no rubbing or brassing above the eyelets or on the edge or hinge of the door. The satin chrome finish retains all its original lustre, the lettering is bright, crisp and full. You can use the new zoom function on the photos to see just how nice it really is. They do not make them like this anymore and perhaps never again will.

COSMETIC CONDITION: The cosmetic condition of the camera is the most important clue to its prior handling. Some examples: If the camera is dusty you should expect that the same is true internally, the camera likely needs a CLA (cleaning, lubrication & adjustment). If the camera has dents & dings it has been handled harshly and all functions are suspect. If heavy brassing (finish worn through) is evident then heavy use is indicated and shutter and mirror functions need careful attention. On the flip side, if the camera is beautiful on the outside it has been treated carefully and may have seen only light use. In this case only normal maintence may be required. Since there is no accurate way to describe the cosmetic condition of a camera, and no two people would agree anyway the photos are the final source of information. REPEAT- Carefully inspect the photos of the camera for clues to its previous usage and handling. If the photos are so poor that you cannot determine the details that may be a sign that the cosmetic condition is poor. BE WARY if the photos are very dark, small or out of focus.
