This is a supremely beautiful, first-class example of Italian art glass, using a combination of technically difficult techniques and dramatic colors to create this special Murano art glass Millefiori egg paperweight! Incredible swirling tightly-packed patterns of amazing color and detail! Crafted by hand in one of the most distinctive and labor-intensive Murano techniques--Millefiori (a thousand flowers) is a classic technique that remains a signature of Murano island craftsmanship and artistry for centuries. A mix of rich, contrasting colors on a base of deep cobalt-blue, unusual patterns, gorgeous form and expert aventurine gold makes this Millefiori paperweight an instant favorite. Magnificent, yet small and very eye catching egg form with very striking and dramatic light reflecting colors of pure metallic gold over the murrines. And finally, the sommerso layer of clear glass seals in the beauty. A truly complex and quality piece. Designed and made on the Venetian Island of Murano. A very fashionable piece of art glass. Looking closely, a top twist, a tilting slightly, you'll see are among the little evidential imperfections that are signs of a truly hand-made creation! FULL CONDITION REPORT: We thoroughly inspected this piece and found that no cracks, chips, nicks, scuffs, flea bites, flakes, hairlines, significant scratches (even on weight-bearing base), repairs, stains, residue, evidence of grinding or signs of restoration could be seen or felt. Any natural indentations, bubbles, tool marks, carbon/ash deposits, and/or any other natural textural features are all original and normal for hand blown glass. Wear to base is normal (slight) and consistent with age. Please review all high resolution photos, at full size, in forming your own opinions.

Brief Murano History
The island of Murano, near Venice has been producing glass since the thirteenth century – 1292. Having been banned from mainland Venice, for threat of fire hazard, the island 's glass furnaces first produced beads and mirrors, soon progressing to chandeliers and architectural stained glass for Italy’s hundreds of churches, chapels and basilicas. Soon they widened their output to include pressed glass, tableware and art glass. The surge in popularity of beautiful, high quality decorative glass in the post-war boom, created a huge mid-20th-century expansion in demand and production on Murano. Notable designers include Flavio Poli, Archimede Seguso, Ricardo Licata, Gino Cenedese, Paolo Venini, Antonio Salviati, Dino Martens, Martinuzzi, Mandruzzato and Ercole and Angelo Barovier to name but a very few. The hardworking Italian glassblowers of Murano can truly be called the Godfathers of modern day glass.
