4-digit Conn 50M Alto Saxophone with matching Otto Link Slant blank mouthpiece
I'm selling this well-matched alto sax with mouthpiece as I only needed it while my main alto was getting fixed
This horn is a US-made early 60's 4-digit Conn 50M stamped USA on the bell. The 50M was based on the Vito Kenosha horns - Conn acquired several hundred bodies and parts already stamped with the Vito serial numbers when they bought the factory in 1961. So this is NOT one of the later Mexican-made models whose serial numbers all start with a letter - the 4-digit serial means it is an earlier made-in-USA horn
The pads are all good and they all seal well, and it has been well maintained so will not need any servicing or any other work done to it for a good long while
This is a good intermediate horn and is built like a tank - it has a thick brass body so has good resonance, and has a large 5-inch bell so has great projection!
The mouthpiece is also a bit special, it is an early 1970's Otto Link Early Babbit made from a Slant Signature blank - that means this is a Slant Signature body that was hand-finished after the move from Florida to Elkhart in about 1972 - they had a few unfinished Slant bodies remaining during the move, and this was finished after the move so has the Otto Link logo in straight writing, not slanted writing, but if you look at the beak and milling lines on the table it is definitely a Slant blank - it plays very well with a Java Red-box 2½ reed
The combination of this sax with this mouthpiece is a really good option for an intermediate player or adventurous beginner
The horn plays very well, and the mouthpiece gets good tone but is not too wide so you can play for a good long while without getting tired, which is good for players developing their technique and embouchure
With the right reed, the sound is colourful and quite loud - a good lead alto sound!
Comes with good quality Ritter gig-bag - it will be packed in a large box surrounded by soft packing materials so will be safe during shipping
Any experienced player knows that matching your kit is half the battle, and with this combo, its already done!
All you need is a neck-strap, a few of the correct reeds for the mouthpiece (Java Red-box 2½) and you are ready to go!
