Especially designed for use in twin tank conversion of diesel vehicles to run on vegetable oil. We have these valves custom made to our very high specification to deliver the very best performance for vegetable oil conversion. These valves have good flow characteristics and high closing pressures with low power consumption. They are manufactured with stainless steel internal components and VITON seals, with brass body and hose tails.

Our valves now come with a clear connector block housing an LED that indicates when power is supplied to the valve. This is a very useful addition that comes in handy when installing the valves and whenever you want to quickly check that your wiring system is working correctly.

Our valves have the following very high specification;

  • 3/2 way solenoid valve

  • Specifically designed for vegoil conversions

  • 8mm OD brass fuel ports

  • 12 volt DC, 17 Watts

  • VITON seals: -20°C to +130°C fuels

  • Stainless steel internal components

  • Brass body material

  • Weather tight connection housing an indicator LED

  • Integrated mounting holes

  • Manufactured in ISO9001:2000 certified factory and CE approved

  • Factory tested for 1 million cycles

  • 1 year warranty

Twin tank conversion has proven to be the most reliable method for converting diesel cars to vegetable oil. We have used this method on our own vehicles for over 10 years and have been designing, manufacturing and selling the best parts for twin tank conversion for 9 years.

To convert your vehicle to run on vegetable oil using a twin tank system is relatively straight forward. You install a second tank, fill one of your fuel tanks with vegetable oil and the other with diesel. You start the vehicle on diesel and run from the diesel tank until the engine is hot, at which point you change tanks and run the vehicle on heated vegetable oil (we'll get onto the heating bit in a moment). It can be run on neat vegetable oil until you near the end of your journey. If the vehicle is to be left long enough for the engine to cool down, you run it for a short while from the diesel tank to purge the vegoil from the fuel system so that it is primed and ready to start from cold on diesel.

So you need to switch fuel tanks. This is best achieved using our 3 port solenoid valve via a switch operated by the driver. When the engine temperature gauge is showing temperatures above 60 degrees C then you can flick the switch and run on your vegoil. When the valve is off, it is drawing from diesel and when it is powered it draws from the vegoil. It is best to use a pair solenoid valves, one to switch the fuel supply and one to switch the fuel return so that the fuel is returned to the tank it came from. Having two solenoid valves also helps to get a complete purge in the shortest time at the end of each journey.

Back to the topic of heating the vegoil - this is most effectively done using a heat exchanger that transfers heat from the engines coolant system to the vegoil. Without heating the oil, damage will be done to the injector pump, the injectors and the engine. It is also advisable to heat the oil at the filter to minimise stress on the vehicles fuel injector pump and fuel system. BioTuning stock a full range of heat exchangers, heated filters, fuel valves, fittings and hoses as well as complete kits to convert your diesel vehicle.

The control pack for twin tank kits comprises a Double Pole, Double Throw ON-OFF-ON switch and a dual colour LED for controlling a pair of solenoid valves giving 3 modes.

Supplied with easy-to-follow wiring instructions to give the following operation.

  • Diesel mode. With the switch in the O position (0 valves powered) both the supply valve and the return valve are unenergised (off). The fuel is drawn from and returned to the diesel tank. The LED is off.

  • Vegoil mode. With the switch in the II position (2 valves powered) both the supply valve and the return valve are energised (on). The fuel is drawn from and returned to the vegoil tank. The LED is green

  • Purge mode. With the switch in the I position (1 valve powered) the supply valve is unenergised (off) and the return valve energised (on). The fuel is drawn from the diesel tank and returned to the vegoil tank. The LED is red

Operating a solenoid powered twin tank kit with this control pack is as follows;

Run the vehicle in the diesel mode until the engine is warm. Switch to veg mode when the engine has reached operating temperature. Run in this mode for the rest of the journey. If the vehicle will be left to cool down before the next journey a purge is necessary. Run the vehicle for around 60 seconds in purge mode and then switch to diesel mode and run for a further 30 seconds. The vehicle is primed and ready for the next cold start.

The switch fits a cutout of 22mm wide and 30mm tall. this is the size of typical blanks in many vehicles. The photos show the switch installed into a blank space in a 2003 VW Polo.

The LED comes with a mounting bezel which pushes into an 8mm diameter hole. It is connected to a pair of flying leads and is surge protected. The LED gives good bright and clear indication of which mode the valves are in.

Provided that you use less than 2,500 litres per year you can simply pour vegetable oil straight into the fuel tank of your diesel without the need to pay tax!

So, if you collect used cooking oil and filter it yourself (see our other items and the plans on our website) you would be driving on FREE FUEL, saving £3000 per year.
