Built for a big man in the 1970's this hand-made Molnija features a chrome plated nickel case that measures a full 2" in diameter, excluding crown and lugs and features a very detailed embossed sailing galleon of the back.   It has light mustard dial that contrasts starkly with black hour and minute hands, subsecond dial at 6 o'clock, large black numbers, and 24 hour outer chapter.

The 18 jewel, manual-wind, Soviet movement has been recently professionally oiled, serviced, and adjusted, sets and winds smoothly, is running strong, and keeping good time.

It is matched with a new 25mm stitched genuine leather black strap with stainless buckle.



 About the Brand

Molnija (sometimes transliterated Molniya) was a Russian watch and clockmaker based in Chelyabinsk, Chelyabinsk Oblast. Molnija (Молния) is the Russian word for lightning.


The Molnija clock and watch factory was opened on November 17, 1947. The company's main customer was then the Soviet Union Department of Defense, providing them with wrist watches,

 pocket watches and table clocks. Unique clocks were also produced specifically for use in Soviet tanks, fighter aircraft, submarines and, eventually, spacecraft.


Molnija's main product is mechanical pocket watches with military, religious and historical motifs. About 80% of the work on most of the watches is done by hand. Some Molnija movements are

 used in oversized men's wristwatches.


The company ceased production in October 2007
