  • Ebay Buying tips:
  • 1.  Read descriptions carefully:  Many Ebay bars do not include hookbait(stinger) and/or spreader bar bag.
  • 2.  Check bar diameter.  Common 1/8" bars are often oversized and create excess water drag and are more visible to fish.
  • 3.  Sterling Bars are designed to fish anywhere in your spread, flat lines, outriggers or even way way way back...If you are used to fishing single lures just tighten your outrigger clips until they hold the bar.
  • 4.  All spreader bars are not the same, some are heavy, some will dig and tumble on choppy days, some are hard to deploy and tangle easily because of long outside lines. But Sterling Bars are built and tested be easy to deploy and track better, even in rougher seas.
  • Fishing tips:
  • 1. When you discover the "Hot" color lure for the day, switch over at least half your spread to a similar color and presentation. Make your spread as "monochromatic" as possible.
  • 2. When you hook up keep going for 20-30 seconds and increase you chances of multiple hook ups.

Additional Info:

  • spreader bars work best when trolled 5-7 knots
  • 3/32" x 18" bars should be fished with tackle of 20# class or higher, excellent light tackle bar.
  • 3/32" x 36" bars should be fished with tackle of 30# class or higher, a breeze with 50# tackle.
  • Bars can be trolled from flat lines, outriggers or high positions. The bar will occasionally duck under a wave, only to break out and spray the lures across the surface. It is this repeated action that make spreader bars the "deadliest" lure in the northeast.
  • The "spring" in these Titanium bars is critical for increased action of outside lures.  Oversized 1/8" steel bars do not have this "spring" effect.
  • Troll as many bars as you can.(the more bait the fish see the more attractive your spread looks.)
  • "Match the hatch", your lures should be similar in size to the bait in the area.  Some days little 5" lures can work best, even when canyon fishing...
