Ländliches Vergnügen, in gesammleten Gedichten. (literally translated: Rural Pleasures in Collected Poems)

published by Leipzig, Christian Gottlob Hilscher, 1774

This is a good copy of an exceedingly rare German 18th century book. There is only one other copy of this book available or listed online. At 245 years old, this book predates the Brothers Grimm, and is a delightful collection of "Rural Pleasures" in Poetry written in original German.

A beautiful and delicate illustration decorates the title page, and the interior is decorated with stamps of angels and other little picture-stamps throughout.  Book remains in (in assumed) original case binding covered with red-black-silver decorated paper. According to Princeton University Library's  website on "Hand Bookbinding,” "In the eighteenth century German publishers issued books in case bindings covered with paper. These bindings have proven to be very durable, and the paper coverings, either marbled or paste decorated, came in a variety of colors and patterns.”

This copy has considerable foxing throughout, but the binding and all pages remain intact and readable. See photographs and Condition Description
