1969 Mustang Mach 1

 NO RESERVE

Hi, thanks for stopping by and checking out my 1969 Mustang Mach 1.   My favorite cars of all time are Mustang Fastbacks, they have been since I was in high school.  If we want to be politically correct, they called this one a Sportsroof, but to me it is a Fastback.  The first time I ever saw a real nice 1969 Mach 1, I was blown away.   We had a local Burger Joint, called Ruffs Drive In, in Kennewick, WA, and at 17 I had bought my first 1965 Mustang Fastback, complete with an Original AFX hood on it, this was back in 1988.   I just got the car the day before, I showed up that night with my friends, and low and behold, a red 1969 Mach 1 right there in front of me. like this one.   The gentleman kindly waved me over and I got to park my little 65 fastback next to what I thought was the most aggressive looking Mustang of all time and still think so.  From that point I had always dreamed of having one of these cars.   Fast forward to today, I have bought and sold around 10 1969 Mach 1 Mustangs, and every time I get one, it brings me back to my youth.  I  Would love to hear the stories from guys that bought them new, or wanted one back in the day when they first came out.  So please send me some stories, I will post them in questions for others to see.    Okay, so enough of memory lane,  these 1969 Mach 1's just get my blood flowing couldn't help myself.   I tried to buy this Mach 1 about 6 years ago from some very nice folks, actually it was his wife Mary's car, and she loved it and there was nothing I could do to pry it off her hands.  I couldn't blame her, she just got it a few years before.  They had traveled down to Southern California in 2003, and found this Mach 1, she had to have it, they cancelled their flight home, and made a road trip back here to Oregon.   Recently I was able to buy this car and another one from them, and drove it back home.   This is a Numbers Matching M code 351 car, I show the VIN on the engine, Door Tag, VIN Tag, all match the engine and title, had have the Marti Report, I have documented everything in the photos as well for you.  Very hard to find Original Numbers matching Mach 1 Mustangs, some say they have one, but usually when I look, to document one they are not, so that is why I took the extra step to prove what the car is.    The car is amazing underneath, the undercarriage is not restored, very original, and it probably is one of the most impressive undercarriages that I have seen on a Mustang.  Original Floors, Frame Rails are to die for, I wish every Mustang and Shelby could have original floors like this.    Being a Factory California car, really saved this one.  It has been in Oregon since 2003, and our weather has been kind to it as well, we have very mild winters, and cool summers and we do not salt the roads.   This car has 102,804 judging from the undercarriage I believe it to be true.  I was told it was correct mileage, and after being around it I believe so as well.  I do not have any written documentation on miles.  Odometer reads 02804, since it is a 5 digit odometer.

Drive Train:    This car has the original  351w, M code 4V engine in it.  The partial VIN is stamped on the back of the drivers side of engine, hard to see but I got a picture of it so you can see it.   Side note, the 351w is probably the most popular engine that Ford every produced.  But 1969 is the only year, that they made it a 4V engine.   The Intake manifold, C90E-8425-E, and correct for the car as well.  The heads are the original 351 4v heads, date codes correct on them.  The engine was rebuilt around 2000, and is in very good shape, it runs excellent, I took off the Cobra Valve Covers, so you could see how clean the engine is.   It does have a Carter AFB competition series Carb on it, which seems to be a good fit for this car.   It does not burn any oil, and does not blow smoke, very clean running engine.   According to the gauge in the dash, it has very good oil pressure as well.    The Transmission shifts well, and was rebuilt about 3 years ago.   It looks to be the original one as well, I don't think they vin stamped them, if they did, it might have been on top, and can't see.  But from what I have researched, it looks like the correct FMX Cruise-O-Matic.  Has the correct Part number on the case C9ZP-7006A, the Z is Mustang designation, and the date codes look correct as well, I believe it is the original transmission.    The transmission shifts nicely, no noise, everything seems in good working order.   The rear end is in good shape, looks to be original as well, had the original tag on it as well.  It is a 3.00 conventional rear axle.  The brakes work great, factory Disc upfront, and drums in the rear.  Just a side note, you would think that any one who ordered a Mach 1, that it would come with Disc brakes, they did not, it was an option, I actually sold a 428cj, and it had drums all the way around, couldn't believe it.   Anyways, mechanically this car is in very good shape, starts right up, idles nicely and can drive anywhere.  It does have Factory AC, and it does BLOW COLD.  This is a very nice option to have in a car like this, especially if you live in hot areas.    Also, it does have Power Steering, it works good no major issues. It has a  little seepage from the power steering ram, but it could be the lines, need to look at them closer to inspect, I tightened up the fittings, so maybe that might help a little.  It may have to be serviced in the future, but for now, nothing of major immediate concern.   No major oil leaks, just typical seepage, around pan and other areas, but nothing hitting the ground after driving that I have ever noticed.  It has dual exhaust on it, with the correct dual tips.  The exhaust is in good shape, but has some surface rust on the pipes as you can see.    All the steering components look good, bushings look decent.  If you did a restoration underneath, you might want to change all the bushing and clean and paint components.

Exterior:  It is a very nice looking car.  All the panels are very straight, and when you look down the sides of the car, very nice and clean.  It was repainted in the mid 1990's.   As you will see in the Marti Report, it was originally Lime Gold, not my favorite color either, so factory red, was a very good choice, and they did a good job painting it red back in 1995.   The paint is almost 19 years old, and the car has been driven.  Out in the bright sun light, it looks really good, very shiny, looks dynamite.  It has a few small light scratches, and some small chips from being driven, it is not a 45-50k Mach 1, but has the pedigree of one for sure.   What holds it back, is the aging paint.  Don't get me wrong, you will take it to any cruise in, or local show, and you will have a great time.  Out in the sun, you have to look really close, and different angles to see issues with the paint, it was hard for me to capture what I am explaining in pictures, you will see them though in close ups.   What I love about this car is, what you see is what you get, no fresh paint hiding anything, original exterior body panels, very honest car.  The paint has little tiny micro blisters on it, out in the sun, hard to see, but sitting in your garage, under lights, you can see them on top of the car in various areas.   This is a very solid car, no rust issues, behind the wheels, on the quarters, the wheel lips, the rockers, doors, fenders are all very good, no rust bubbles.  Down the road when you decide to have it repainted you can turn it into a show car again.  For now I would just enjoy it, when we have taken it to events, people flock around it, and no one ever notices a thing.  If you were to come see it in person, and it sitting outside, I would have to point out the micro blisters, you probably would never really notice it, unless it was indoors.   The black on the hood, has some checking on it, from age as well.  The hood scoop I would probably have it repainted in the near future, and maybe the black on the hood, to make them look a little more cleaner.  The factory Mach 1 stripe kit, is very clean on the car, look very nice, and has the correct reflectiveness to them, where it changes colors.   The chrome on the car, is in very nice shape, a little age, but very clean.   The wheels are original Styled Steel, Chrome, with trim rings.  Matching spare in the trunk as well.  Tires are 205/70/14 in front and 235/60/14 in rear, the tires are non matching front to back.   The exterior lights are very clean, marker lights no hazing, no cracks, very clean.  All the exterior lights are working, even the back up lights.    I love the front and rear chin spoiler on these cars, they really add a lot to the look of them.

Interior:  Interior is in very nice shape,   Restored inside back in 1995, clean seats, no rips, a little age, but very good condition and clean.  The headliner is in great shape no tears.  I love the white interior in these cars, especially in the heat, since they stay cool.  To me, the white is really a classy look on a Muscle car like this.  The dash pad, is correct for a AC car, in cracks in it, very good shape.  The heater core has been changed recently, which is a bear to do, so no worries there in the near future.  The door panels are in very nice shape, all the interior lights work, door lights, dome lights in the rear all work, they are not on in the pictures, I changed all the bulbs in them,  and the fuse.  Cigarette light works as well, dash lights work.  It has the factory Rim Blow steering wheel in it, it will need to be restored, has some splitting as you can see, and the rim blow is not working currently.   The only thing not working is the radio, it is aftermarket, and we can not get it to turn on.  Most likely you will switch it out to original or modern to look old style that you can plug your Ipod or MP3 into like most people do.  The original clock in dash is not working either.  As you are driving it,  I just love looking out across the hood, seeing the hood scoop and the turn signals in the rear of it.    Overall a nice interior for its age.   It does have new Pony Rubber floor mats in it as well, to me these look very classic and correct in a car like this.

Trunk / Undercarriage / Engine Compartment:   The trunk area is very clean, no signs of any accidents inside, very clean inner quarter panels, no major repairs, tail light panel is original and very clean inside.   The engine compartment is clean.  The passenger inner fender apron is the only changed out panel on the car, due to the battery box which typically rust, they decided to make it clean and change the front apron, common repair.  The other aprons are very clean, tops of the seams under hood on aprons, no bubbling like you see on 1969-70 Mustangs.   The firewall is very clean, and so is the front radiator support.   The undercarriage is in really nice original shape.  It would be easy to clean it up and have it repainted underneath.  To me, it is amazing under there.  It is very rare to find frame rails, this clean, no rust, no repairs, no dents in them.  I wish every Mustang look like this, original is awesome in my book.  The floors again very clean, no repairs, original floors.  When they did paint it, they did get a little red on the gas tank and the floors, should have shielded it better, but that is okay easy to clean up down the road.  Since the car has not been restored underneath, you see there is surface rust on the rear end, and components.  This is something you can do during the winter months, just take it one step at a time and clean and repaint things as time allows on the weekend.  Very manageable for folks who like to work on their cars.   Take a look at all the pictures underneath and really study them, you will fall in love with the car.   The structure of a Mustang is the most important to having a very fine automobile.
