This 1978 felt pennant is NEAR MINT condition. Printing on the pennant is clean, continuous, original condition. Felt is clean with thick original integrity, smooth crisp edges and border felt. The rare NASL pennant collection now available through current listings feature teams and pennants from 1978 to 1980. During these three seasons there were a total of 24 teams, and 19 of those 24 are included in this collection with each pennant listed individually while available. Two additional pennants include a rare NASL League Pennant and the NASL ‘Soccer Sport Of The 80's’ Pennant issued in 1980.

Along with their interest and value to US soccer history and collectors, the graphics and team logos are wonderful examples of design from the late 1970's and early 1980's from illustration to color to type design. Of the 19 team pennants available, several of the teams only played from 1978-1980. They include the Detroit Express, Houston Hurricane, Memphis Rogues, New England Tea Men, and Philadelphia Fury. One team, the Caribous of Colorado, played exclusively in 1978. Two of the teams, the Ft Lauderdale Strikers and the Tampa Bay Rowdies are the only two teams who remain in the newly reformed NASL. ABOUT THE ORIGINAL NASL 1968-1984
The North American Soccer League (NASL) was the top-level major professional soccer league in the United States and Canada that operated from 1968 to 1984. It was the first soccer league to be successful on a national scale in the United States. The league final was called the Soccer Bowl from 1975 to 1983 and the Soccer Bowl Series in its final year, 1984. The league's popularity peaked in the late 1970s. The league averaged over 13,000 fans per game in each season from 1977 to 1983, and the league's matches were broadcast on network television from 1975 to 1980. (The original NASL was a national Division I soccer league that was active from 1968 to 1984. The present-day NASL Division II league was recreated and resumed play in 2011.)
