Right ebike power:

 

If you are an average cyclist, you ride a bicycle with aerobic continuous power between 50-100Watts. You may increase your power in an accelerating condition to as high as 400Watts, but this is only for some seconds in your body acid lactic mode. The power we introduce for our ebike motors are the continuous power which the whole system can provide for the whole range as mechanical output.  If you are a cyclist who would like to make it practical to go to work or school for a higher range and severer road condition, e.g. long travel distance, slopes on the road, wind against, heavy baggage, etc. or you want to be faster on your bike, or you have certain physical considerations in your body and don’t want to put pressure on your body or feet, our 250W kits are just the best option.

 

Comparing to aerobic continuous power around 50-100W, 250W motor mechanical power is a great power which will be added to your pedaling power. You see it is like 2.5 to 5 time higher power that drives your bike. 250W is the nominal max power which you can set through your 5 degree Pedal Assist System. At any time you can choose to limit the motor power to 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% or 100% of the nominal power via PAS setting keys on your LCD display.

You use your bike to do exercise while commuting, burn fat, keep in shape healthy body? You can select the lower PAS to use more of your calories and more pressure on your muscles.

250W is pretty enough, well optimized for ebikes with respect of power, maximum regulated speed of 32km/h, weight, cost and the most important, human powered nature of bicycle.

350W  is a more powerful faster ebike motor, let’s say more than enough for a bike, slightly heavier and more costly. It is recommended for heavier cyclists, tougher road conditions and those who need a faster drive but limited to max 32km/h ebike regulations. if your conditions are more like this go for our 350W kits.

We do not suggest and do not provide higher power ebike kits, although there are a lot in the market. We tried and believe 500W, 1000W or more powers cannot be considered electric bicycles; because the humane power easily fades in those high powers and the philosophy of cycling will totally be affected. Go to higher powers only if you are interested in electric powered motorcycles…

 

 

Why Front Wheel?

No considerable advantage/disadvantage on traction, balance and control of ebike will be gained by replacing motor in rear or front. But in many gearless hub motors, as the moment of inertia of the motor is higher than geared ones, it may have a slight effect on steering efforts; therefor gearless motors need to be installed on rear axle. It makes it more flexible and easier to assemble/disassemble front wheel hub when converting a bike to an ebike and vice-versa as well as minimizing effects on the original bike powertrain system. This is the main Idea we follow; so we offer geared front hub motors for our conversion kits; although we can provide rear hub motors in case. 

 

 Why Geared Motors?

Higher electric power can be achieved through higher RPMs in smaller size and lower weight. An embedded high efficiency, reliable, maintenance free polyamide sun-planetary reducing gear let us have a great torque and power in a very small and light hub motor. People rarely recognize this is a hub motor as it is a little bigger than a conventional bicycle hub or brake hub. An automatic clutch keeps the wheel released while freewheeling and engage it only when you need a torque or power from motor; No noise and no sense of geared motor engaged in whole trip.

Installation simplicity, light and small size, low moment of inertia, high torque and power is achieved accompanied with maintenance free reliability in hub geared motor.

 

Ebike Battery:

You get the auxiliary motor power on your ebike from a battery source recharged by grid power. Primary ebikes used to use sealed lead acid batteries for the power source which were so heavy and low range. Some suppliers still propose using this type of battery on special rack mounted cases or body embedded cases as a matter of lower price and availability for the customers. since 2005 Li-Ion cells mass production bring this technology to ebike industry as a matter of affordable price. There are different types of Li-Ion cells now on the market with a huge variety of quality and brands.

In Li-Ion technology batteries is a set of certain number of cells in a case which are connected paralleled or in series for certain Voltage and Amperage and are protected with special Battery Management System (BMS) to prevent cells from unbalance, under voltage, over voltage, over current which all can be harmful to vulnerable Li-Ion cells.

Li-Ion Battery has bellow advantages than conventional lead acid batteries for ebikes:

·         Higher energy density up to 7 times

·         Higher power density

·         Constant discharge behavior until full deplete

·         Higher safety due to BMS controls

·         2-3 times higher life cycle

·         High electrical efficiency in charge and discharge

You should know that Capacity measurement methods in sealed lead acid batteries are different from Li-Ion Batteries; e.g. a 10Ah lead acid battery is comparable to a 6Ah Li-Ion battery pack with respect of ebike range and about 6 times heavier. In Lead acid batteries, there is usually a direct relation between charge state and the output power that makes power drop from full charge to half charge totally sensible. In contrast, Li-Ion will almost maintain the same output power till the end of it’s range.

What battery we provide:

 

Battery usually takes the biggest share on the cost of an ebike kit. In case of Li-Ion it is almost 60% of the total cost of the kit. It is also very important to performance, safety, reliability and beauty of the ebike. The most vulnerable and the most expensive service cost in case of a defect. That’s why many online ebike dealers do not supply battery on their kits.

Battery cells of all kinds have an expiry date thus no matter if you use or store the battery the battery is getting aged and miss capacity.This is the same brand, model and quality control which is used in most ‘A’ grade laptops. Pack of 40 or 50 cylindrical 18650 cells has the advantage of maintenance-ability compared to polymer packs.

Each 3.7V cell is continuously monitored and protected from over-voltage, under-voltage and over-current as well as 10 series cells voltage balance to guarantee maximum life cycle.  

 

 

Rainproof:

 

Our ebike kits are designed and tested for a variety of climates. When they are introduced to Vancouver it means ebike components installation is rainproof and no problem for rain and splash of water and dust as defined in IP54 definition. Battery charger is an indoor use only device.

Dust Protected and water splashing against the enclosures from any direction have no harmful effect; that does not include a water jet or immersion in water.

Ebike kit is a standardized set of components like special ebike electric motor, controllers, sensors, cables, battery and charger to be installed on a conventional bike to convert it to an electric bike.

Some or most online suppliers do not include or supply battery and charger in ebike kits to let customers find and do the battery themselves.
