A series not to be missed by dog lovers, Working Dogs gets underway with this delightful release honouring the unique qualities of the Border Collie. By purchasing this coin, you are making a donation of $1 to the RSPCA Australia, which relies on community support to provide care for animals in need.
The coin’s reverse portrays an adult border collie and a puppy in colour. An intelligent, devoted and energetic breed, the border collie’s great temperament is matched by its agility, concentration and instinctive desire to work closely with humans. The border collie’s acute herding instincts make it one of the world’s most popular sheep dogs. The design includes silhouettes of sheep in the background. As well as a decorative pattern of paw prints, the coin’s reverse also includes the inscriptions WORKING DOGS and BORDER COLLIE – SHEEP DOG.
The reverse of each coin includes The Perth Mint’s ‘P’ mintmark. The Ian-Rank Broadley effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II and the year-date appears on the obverse of each coin.
The Border Collie
The Border Collie is a dog breed developed in the Anglo-Scottish border region for use on farms to assist with the herding of livestock. Their intelligence has been observed as having an intuitive quality that goes well beyond basic instinct. Such sensitivity calls for an environment that regards their higher faculties; otherwise, they can become distressed. With this understanding, they are excellent companion animals.
Typically extremely energetic, acrobatic and athletic, they frequently compete with great success in dog sports, in addition to their success in sheepdog trials, and are often cited as the most intelligent of all dogs.
