Also available in a much more comprehensive 16ch (10mics), 8 with one knob compressors and 4 stereo channels.

The C6XS-12 also features USB facility for stereo record / playback facility, making it ideal for project home recording or supplying interval / backing music to your live performance. Also included is a high quality 16 program with adjustable parameters DSP effects unit and 48v phantom power switchable via 2 switches (Mic 1 and 2, Mic 3 and 4).  Mic channels 5(6) and 7(8) have switchable ducking circuits - ideal for natural voice over announcements - when activates and the mic spoken into the rest of the program drops in level (ducks).d/playback facilities.

WHY COMPRESSION?
A compressor reduces (i.e. compresses) the dynamic range by reducing the loudest sounds.

Once you have reduced the dynamic range you can raise the overall system volume a bit without fear of it suddenly getting too loud or damaging your speakers.

Bringing up the overall volume will also have the effect of bringing up the quietest portions of audio so it is more clearly understood in the midst of background sounds such as coughing, children and ventilation systems.

WHY BUILT-IN?
These built in compresses are very cost effective.  Imagine having to buy 6 outboard channels of compression.  300-3,000 dollars later ....

Outboard compressors have way more control, but these on-board single knob compressors will work perfectly for 85-95% of instances.

And when compared to similar quality/featured mixers - like the Soundcraft EPM6 we pay you to use them!  Well sort of.  The XS10 is as good or better in quality and features plus the compressors, plus the MP3 player with display and the USB record/Playback circuit, and will cost you $30 less.
