Gorgeous Antique French Vanity Fan, Pearl with Silver & Vermeil Inlay, Orig. Box

Fabulous & rare antique French vanity fan in solid mother of pearl with sterling silver & 18k gold vermeil inlays & hand painted doves with nest! With elements of the Neoclassical popularlized in France during the reign of Napoleon and Josephine, this is a stunning and fine early to mid 1800s French fan that is fit for a frame display. Fine art in hand painted guache on silk (double leaf, also hand painted on back, as shown). The Leaf is set to elegant mother of pearl sticks and guards, all of which are in remarkably fine condition. I see just one old silver repair on on of the thicker outer pearl panels (noted in our images), it does not readily show or detract in display or in use. The scene is of a relatively simple nest with two eggs and two dove figures though still hand painted artistry in miniature. The sticks and guards have sterling silver & vermeil, or 18k gold on sterling silver, pique work, elaborate and shimmering. None finer!

Very good condition. As noted, there is an old repaired break to one side guard that's visible and another similar repair to the pearl only under the silk fan portion on the other side guard. There are also thin splits in the fan material, just above the doves, and a bit of fraying in spots. The box is as you see it with loss to the silk top panel and in moderately rough shape. Insurance has been eliminated as an option by ebay, forcing us sellers to either ship your items without insurance or assume that expense also. We always insure our items BUT, more importantly, pack them extremely well knowing that most are not replaceable. Our shipping days are Tuesday and Friday, paid items will be shipped on the first shipping day after payment is received (except when special circumstances exist). We prefer to use USPS whenever possible, and require all packages to be insured. If you prefer another method of shipment, please mention it. We charge only actual expense of shipment/insurance, except in the case of larger items which must have special wood crates built. Wood crate charge, when applicable, is a flat $35.00 in addition to actual postage & insurance charges.
