An extraordinary and authentic rug by Verner Panton.
Huge rug size dimensions - 200 cm by 400 cm. This size is nearly non existant.
A couple of experts on Panton rugs, have both said this size of Panton Rug is near non existant. And both have said they have not seen one, after decades of collecting. So this is may be one of the only rugs, of this size out there.
This is a recent estate find.
The rug was in the same great room for decades from the time of original purchase.
Comes from a smoke-free, pet-free home, Only one individual, the rug's original purchaser, lived in the home.
The rug is gorgeous, even though it is close to 50 or 60 years old.
It needs some restoration work.
Also it needs to be professionally cleaned.
Some of the shag has worn down to the backing,
Some frayed areas on the ends, mostly near the seams, and mostly in one corner. I tried showing this in the photos.
An area near the edge has yellowed on the top. A sofa sat just in front of this area, and the sun faded the rug here, I believe. If you part the shag in this area, it is white within.
I took a few pictures showing the back of the rug.
There are a few spots, but not many.
The home this rug came from was immaculate.
You can even still smell the wool, which I find incredible given the age of the rug.
I took pictures in my home, as well as outside, to give a good look.
Again, the rug is from a one-owner, pet-free, smoke-free home, which was furnished with the finest mid-century designs.
Most importantly, it includes the original Verner Panton label.
The rug is not perfect, and needs TLC.
Even with that, it is stunning. And timeless.
Not many of these around....quite rare indeed.
