Antique Solid Silver Pair Cased Fusee Pocket Watch

This wonderful antique pocket watch is made by the maker John Dwerrihouse, and hallmarked for London 1768. The separate outer case is by Richard Grove and is hallmarked for the year 1810.

The cases are both made of solid sterling silver

Unfortunately, the watch is not working, but this is due to the ratchet mechanism which holds the main spring in place, which is not working correctly (when it is wound, it immediately unwinds fully.) Which shows that it will probably be in good working order once this minor problem is fixed. I believe the hairspring is missing. This watch would make a great project to restore to full working order.

The mechanism reads 'Jn Dwerrihouse London No 525.'

John Dwerrihouse is well known for his longcase clocks, which are known to command a very high price at auction.

What is interesting about this watch, is that one of John Dwerrihouse's earliest known pocket watches I have found to be from 1773, whereas this watch is hallmarked for 1768. John Dwerrihouse was active from 1770 until his death in 1805 (According to the British Museum.)

The condition is good, for a pocket watch of such age, with some scratching around the case and just a few tiny dints but nothing major. The hinged parts shut fine and form a tight seal. The dial is in very good condition and shows both Roman numerals in hours and Arabic in seconds. Unfortunately, the hour hand is broken halfway. The glass front is good, with only a few minor scratches which can be only be seen at close scrutiny.

The watch itself measures 44mm in diameter and the outer loose case measures 49.5mm.
