Black quartz crystal from Georgia.  The black is a smooth layer of Manganese deposited over the surface.  This crystal is perfect with a sharp and crisp termination.  It has a growth form that started forming in the "split/sprouting" style.  You can see the indented areas on the prismatic faces.  A unique occurence. 
 We call these crystals "shadow" quartz.  They have some of the nicest Manganese oxide coating of any crystals I have seen.  Smooth and consistent.  Mined in Gwinnett county, Georgia back in 2010.
