Here we have a Vintage G. I. MIX & CO. Conn. Heavy Duty Timber Framing Socket Chisel, 1-1/4" X 15-1/2" Long. G. I. Mix & Co. (Garry I. Mix) began manufacturing carpenter tools and edge tools in Yatesville, CT in 1855 employing over 150 people in his factory.  They were well known for the quality of their chisels and draw knives. The company operated into the early 1900’s.

This HEAVY DUTY socket-style chisel is primarily used for timber framing work.  It is faintly stamped:  G. I. Mix & Co. on the blade.  The edge is sharp but should be tuned up by the new owner before use.  The chisel has some dings but no pitting or rust.  The chisel without the handle measures 11-1/4”.  The Oak/Hickory handle has a thick metal impact ring.  There are some short cracks near the bottom edge of the handle where it has been slightly driven over the lip of the socket.  The handle measures 4-1/4"L for a total length of 15-1/2"  No owner's marks.

"Apologies":  owner's stamp on side edge of blade
