FYI: Owned by Star Cruises of Malaysia since March 2000, Norwegian Cruise Line was established -
originally under the name Norwegian Caribbean Lines - by Norwegian entrepreneur Knut Kloster and
Ted Arrison (who later started, Carnival Cruise Lines) in 1966 with a single ship, the Sunward.

Kloster added four new ships by 1971, and in 1979 his decision to purchase the former pride of the
French Line ss France (renamed ss Norway), made the public sit up and take notice of his company.

NCL's innovative "Freestyle Cruising" concept was introduced in late 2001.

NCL’s America division, inaugurated in 2005 (ended in 2008), had 3 U.S.-flagged ships,
Pride of America, Pride of Aloha and Pride of Hawai’i, and was the only cruise line in the industry
to offer year-round seven-day inter-island Hawaii cruises with roundtrip itineraries from Honolulu.

Norwegian Cruise Line, as of 2015 has a fleet of 14 ships.
