A 1.4 is near ultimate power, letting in precious amounts of light even when subject illumination is low, making it ideal for documentary photography/ low light situations. 

There is a creative side to fast lenses besides light gathering power, one can emphasis the subject by isolating it from the background, which allows you to create a narrative within a body of work. In other words the 1.4 setting is not just there for low light it can be used just as effectively in bright sunny conditions especially with slow ISO/ fast shutter speed combination to “kill” the amount of light so that you can select and emphasis the subject you want to represent within your photography.  

The great thing about lenses like this is they are made like a lens should be, all metal body for strength and durability. 

This lens can be mounted directly to Pentax DSLR cameras as well as the original SLRS. Pentax have maintained the PK mount meaning the lenses aperture function is maintained, and while it remains manual focus, the wide focus ring makes focusing easy and responsive and the cameras AF mechanism is still engaged so the green AF confirmation light illuminates once the subject is in focus.
