ORIGINAL VINTAGE 1956 SILKSCREEN BOAC POSTER for the USA & CANADA by MAURICE LABAN
This series of posters was commissioned by the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC) in 1956 This is a unique opportunity to acquire an original vintage 1956 poster Maurice Laban was a highly regarded freelance illustrator working for many prestigious clients during the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s The posters were printed using the serigraphy (silkscreen) process using opaque inks which results in an incredible intensity of colour and a distinctive texture. These original posters are extremely rare, desirable and very much valued by collectors and aficionados. This poster is from the 1st printing, was obtained directly from the printer in 1956 and has been in storage ever since. It has never been displayed. It is offered for sale directly from the artist's son. The poster is in suberb condition, virtually mint, with only very minor imperfections to the edges and minor discoloration to the back. The printed colours are incredibly fresh and vivid. It is unlikely that there are any examples in as good condition available elsewhere and certainly none with this provenance! The poster is offered un-mounted, un-matted and un-framed. It is very large, measuring 1015mm x 635mm. The poster has the printed signature of Laban and the smaller text is as follows:- British Overseas Airways Cororation in association with Qantas Empire Airways Limited. South African Airways. Tasman Empire Airways Limited. 56/606. Printed in Great Britain. With safe delivery in mind - and because these posters are so rare and valuable - I have had some extra strong postal tubes custom made so they can be mailed with confidence. They will also be waterproofed. They are quite heavy and therefore more expensive to send.
