While looking at this bicycle, it is immediately clear that the owner did not want to save a penny with engineering and materials. This is a REAL full 18 k gold plated bike.
After many years of bike collectors drooling and fondling it's gold finish has begun to flake, I guess it's to be expected, but the rest of the bike is in exceptional condition considering its 31 years of display here there and everywhere.
Gold plating is never the best material to resist even if the bike has never been ridden and stored on the wall of a CEO’s office in Rome as it’s “Gioconda”.
The Superleggera Competizione has always been beloved for its frame geometry (Scapin), as this model in great condition shows. But what makes it even more desirable is the GOLD plating which was applied to all the Columbus SL tubes, with pantographed and hand painted details in many parts of the frame.
Olympia by the CEO of Mr Fontana has released a certification of rarity for this frame, that will be given to the new owner.
The bike’s architecture has a fantastic internal cable routing, crono gear shifters and last but not at least, crono Shimano dropouts (the innovation technology of that time), that makes it super sexy.
This Olympia Competizione Superleggera is equipped with a full ICS GOLD plated groupset.
