For sale is a FFWD F4R carbon tubular wheelset with top-of-the-line Vittoria Corsa CX tubular tires. The wheels are in excellent condition, perfectly true, and ready to ride. They have very light usage because they have only been used for racing. Less than 400 miles. My team went with Zipp and Specialized as new wheel sponsors so I am selling these. The cassette in the picture is not included. Includes lightly used Swiss Stop carbon brake pads.

This wheelset retails from $1200-$1500 at most places. The Vittoria tires retail for about $60 each. Labor to mount a tubular is around $40 per wheel.

Manufacturer's Description
Description of FFWD F4R Carbon Wheelset with FFWD Hubs - Tubular - black/red/white
Proven aerodynamics and an extremely light weight are combined in the F4R wheels, making it the best choice for an all-round wheelset. The 45 mm deep rims are handmade in the Netherlands of High-Tensile TC35 carbon. This gives the rims very high strength with sufficient stiffness.

The front wheel features 20 radial Sapim CX-Ray spokes and the rear wheel features 24 double crossed spokes to ensure optimum stiffness and a lossless power transmission. The 7075 aluminum FFWD hubs are made by DT Swiss and feature sealed cartridge bearings for a long lasting and smooth run. Compatible with Shimano and Campagnolo 9/10/11s cassettes.

The DARC technology stands for ‘Double Arc’ which refers to the profile of the rim. This will increase the pressure just like on the topside of an airfoil. Increased pressure results in a faster airflow and less resistance on the wheel which reduces the drag.

FFWD uses High-Tensile TC-35 carbon for the majority of the lay-up. This gives the rim a very high strength with sufficient stiffness to cope with hard application of the wheels. FFWD actually uses multiple layers of different types of carbon. Only the outer layer is made of a 3K weave. Underneath this layer are layers of UDF (Uni-Directional Fiber) sheets. A mixture of different angles to resemble a uniform material. The different angles interconnect through the resin to make the wheel resistant to all kinds of forces.

All rims are molded with a process FFWD calls ECOM (Equal Compression). This means that the rims are molded with a custom-made air bag that has the inner shape of the rim. This makes sure that the pressure/compression is equal on the entire inner surface of the rim. Result is a practically void less rim section and a smooth wall on the inside of the rim. Without voids, the carbon sheets are completely fused into one system. The rim structure is much better and you can make the rim lighter and stronger.

FFWD works closely with industry partners such as SwissStop for development and testing brake surfaces and brake pad compositions. The most rims are built differently and require different brake surface compositions. FFWD evaluated the best options for each type of wheel and found ways to further improve them. The result is the Confidence Brake Technology (CBT). Each CBT equipped wheel delivers vastly improved stopping power by 30% and provides the rider with consistent, reliable and responsive braking control in all conditions.
