Here's a 7/8" cello button that is in the Hake reference books under Theodore Roosevelt.  It's from his 1912 run for president under the Progressive Party banner, popularly known as the Bull Moose Party. When Taft, his chosen successor, failed to meet all of TR's expectations, he challenged him during the 1912 republican primaries.  In spite of having more delegates going into the RNC than Taft, the sitting president's supporters controlled the convention, seated pro-Taft delegates and nabbed the nomination. TR and his supporters walked out, formed their own party and in a three-way race, gave the election in November to the democrat, Woodrow Wilson, because the conservative and moderate votes were split. So, in spite of the claim on this pin, TR couldn't win and most people saw this in advance. President Taft even came third!
