All original antique staved wood constructed Firkin/bucket with name of a Mathews county Virginia store stenciled on it. Stencil read" Penders?store 37 Williams Wharf Va" ( has wear and is difficult to read). All original finish all I did was brush the dust off. It is in good condition with only wear from use and age. It is of staved wood construction and iron stapled bands. The middle band seems to have moved down a little. Purchased in Mathews county. Has a few stains from use and will need to be cleaned if desired. Unsure what original contents were but Williams Wharf landing in Mathews county has been used since the mid 1700's as a customs port and many ships from all over the world came there with their cargoes to trade. Very interesting piece and sure to be a focal point for your local / primitives collection. It measures 9 1/2 inches tall (without handle) and is about 10 inches wide at bottom. Top rim is 9 1/4 inches wide to outside edge. I don't see a wear mark from lid so I don't believe it had one originally. Any questions I would be happy to answer.
