NEW, UNFIRED IN TIN
I was a big collector of Zippo lighters
for many years. It all started when my ex-wife bought me the
“Mysteries Of The Forest” Collectable Of The Year set on our first wedding
anniversary – she bought me the COTY every year till we divorced. My
collection just got larger, eventually running into the hundreds. I was
also a member of the Zippo “Click” club, meaning I could buy special editions
that were not available to the general public in shops.
However, I took all the display
cabinets down when the lounge was rebuilt ten years ago and just never got
round to putting them back up. They’ve languished in several boxes
in “the cupboard at the top of the stairs” ever since and my idea was to have
some display cases specially made.
I’m on (another) major bike project and
am clearing out space – I rediscovered the boxes of Zippos and I’ve finally
realised that I’ll never get round to displaying them again. So I’m
going to be selling off the majority of my collection – I’ll be keeping a few
special ones as a wall display, but all the box sets will be going as and when
I get round to it.

The 1995 Limited Edition Collectibles marked several firsts for Zippo. For the
first time the images on the lighters in a set combined to present a larger
picture. It was the first Limited Edition to use Zippo's exciting new
Technigraphic™ decorating process. And for the first time the single lighter,
Jaguar and Cub at Turtle Falls™, shared a graphic connection with the four
lighter Mysteries of the Forest™ set.”
This was the first set I ever owned,
bought for me by my ex-wife on our first wedding anniversary in Guernsey. It was the last one they had, a display set
in the shop. I also bought the companion
piece “Jaguar and Cub” at the same time.
I had this piece on display for about seven years in a glass display
cabinet.
The set is in excellent condition, all
four lighters being unmarked and un-fired.
No marks on the cases, although they could do with a good clean as the
brass is dull after twenty years. I
don’t tend to clean brass, once you’ve started it seems to be a never ending
process. Display tin in very good
condition, no dents or scratches. No
orange stickers (they were removed before I bought it) and no outer card slip
case – I wasn’t even aware there should have been one included until I
understood a bit more about Zippos, same goes for the orange stickers. Still has the original leaflet, which I only
found today when I removed them from the tin to photograph.
Pricewise – I have no idea. I’m starting on the high side (eternal
optimism) and most of them have “Best Offers” on. I will drop the price after the third week,
so if you feel the price is too high, check in again after week three.
