1x Trigalight 1.5mm x 6mm Tritium Vial

Trigalights are laser sealed borosilicate glass vials which are internally coated with phosphor injected with gaseous tritium (this is the special stuff) which reacts with the phosphor to create a cold energy which produces a low level light source with no filaments or heat dissipation and no risk of fire or explosion.

They are unaffected by water, oil and most corrosive materials and require no external power source or exposure to light, remaining fail-safe and maintenance free with a lifetime in excess of 10-20 years.

Because they are so small, they are ideal for gluing or sticking onto Military equipment, Fishing rods, bite indicators and other equipment that does not usually have an isotope slot. (This listing is for the Vial ONLY if you want it encased in plastic look for our "Bivvy marker" listing)

How Does it Work?

trigalight® works similar to a CRT tube, formerly used in TV screens. Like TV CRT tubes, our lights are built using a glass housing, a gas proof glass containment. The inner walls of this glass vessel are coated with a very thin layer of phosphorescent powder. This powder (zinc sulphide) has the ability to change electrical energy into light.

The electric energy in case of the trigalight® is generated by the tritium gas, a low radiation beta emitter. While decaying, the tritium looses its electrons. When such an electron hits the layer, it is captured and transformed into light.

The colours of our trigalights are therefore not dependent on the gas filled in, but on the coating, which can be varied.
