Main Description

This impressive antique Victorian sterling silver fruit basket has an oval shaped form onto four feet.

The flared body of this fine basket is embellished with an undulating band of pierced scrolling leaf decoration above weaving and trellis style ornamentation accented with a bright cut engraved floral motif at each intersection.

The body is further embellished with fine and impressive applied and chased floral festoon decoration suspended from applied ram's head and floral motifs.

The shaped upper rim of the basket is ornamented with an applied opposing scroll border, the lower rim is encircled with a band of stylised leaf and bead decoration.

To either end of the basket is a fine and impressive applied and chased decorated lion mask grasping in the mouth a plain loop handle.

The plain oval well of this impressive piece is plain and unembellished.

This antique basket is supported by four impressive applied and chased tied leaf and scroll decorated feet.

Condition

This antique sterling silver basket is an exceptional gauge of silver, exceptional quality and in exceptional presentation condition.

The applied, chased and pierced decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is very crisp.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the basket are all very clear.

Reflection in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Victorian silverware.
