Sterling Silver Two-Handled Tea Tray - Antique George III

A fine and impressive antique Georgian English sterling silver two handled tea tray; an addition to our silver tray collection

Description

This fine antique George III sterling silver tea tray has a rectangular form with rounded corners.

The surface of the tray is encircled with fine and impressive bright cut engraved leaf patterns encompassed with interlacing angular borders accented with stylised leaf sprays in addition to simplified foliate arrangements to the interlacing design.

The outer circumference of the surface is ornamented with a bright cut engraved scalloped border with a subtle concave circular ornamentation flanking each incurve.

The decoration to the surface of the tray incorporates a shaped vacant cartouche to the centre.

The raised border of the tray is ornamented with applied gadroon decoration to the rim.

This Georgian silver tray is fitted with a fine pair of twin gadroon decorated handles ornamented with an impressive leaf motif handpiece and scrolling leaf designs to the terminals.

This tray is displayed with a four piece tea and coffee service for illustrative purposes only - the service (W5561) may be purchased separately from the AC Silver inventory.

Condition

This antique tea tray is a very good gauge of silver, fine quality and in excellent presentation condition.

The applied decoration is very sharp and the bright cut engraved decoration is crisp, in keeping with age.

Full hallmarks struck to the underside of the tray are all very clear.

Reflections in photographs may detract from the true representation of this piece of Georgian silverware.
