If one driver had to be selected as a defining product of JBL, considering the company’s rich history of numerous ground-breaking transducers, the 375 would most assuredly be chosen. The 375 design is rooted in the principles of the Western Electric 594, yet significant advances were accomplished. When introduced in 1953 it was considered a giant leap forth in terms of sonic accuracy. Moreover, it set a new standard for design and production methods and also fortified JBL’s ascent as a major player in the professional and consumer audio marketplaces. The 375 was originally used in professional theater systems then later used as the “heart” of JBL’s most significant consumer speaker systems, the Hartsfield and the Paragon.

Today, the 375 is as popular as ever. Many feel it set a benchmark in the history of hi-fidelity that has yet to be rivaled, a claim that is very hard to dispute. Sonically when coupled to the appropriate horn the 375’s sound is amongst the most refined of any horn driver available. It is rated to handle the all-important frequency range from 500Hz-10 kHz. The reproduction of this mid-to-high band is outstanding. It depicts all the desirable qualities of a horn; emotionally involving, unmatched dynamic impact and first-rate transient response, yet with a degree of sonic refinement, naturalness, and aural detail delineation on a level of its own. It has tremendously smooth and effortless response with clarity even while it delivers high sound pressure levels.
