This auction is for an
original lady's day bodice from the 1880s. It is made of blue wool lined with brown cotton. It fastens with buttons at the front. The plastron wraps over and snaps at the right side (snap is a later addition). It is not boned. Particularly beautiful is the intricate smocking on the front, back and shoulders, very distinctive! This fabulous bodice would look gorgeous with some jet trim over any black bustle skirt (not hard to find!) and is beautifully suitable for display inspiration and pattern-drafting.

Condition: missing its buttons, scattered small holes

Measurements are:
The bust measures 33 inches, The waist measures 25 inches.
