Sajou Museum & Heritage Gift Box Cross Stitch Boxed Kit- The Bayeux Tapestry

 Welcome to my shop!

A beautiful, large  gift box containing a Sajou cross stitch chart depicting scenes from the Bayeux Tapestry  along with 25 cards of Laine St Pierre embroidery wool and 70 cm square piece of 32 count linen embroidery fabric in sand colour required to complete the chart.

The Bayeux tapestry measures almost 64 meters in length and this chart shows some of the major scenes from the tapestry. There are two additions to the chart, there is a map to show the site of the events surrounding the Battle of Hastings, and there are coloured  tassels included in the chart, in order to show that the whole tapestry was worked in just seven colours.

The pattern chart is 68 x 80 cm for ease of use given the complexity of the design, it is printed in matt and can be written on should you need to mark any references.

I also have pattern charts and smaller kits of the separate scenes shown in this large kit, please see my other listings.

The back of the chart has explinations for the embroidery and it is also and is teeming with historical and cultral information regarding the Bayeux Tapestry and the the history surrounding the Battle of Hastings.

The size of the motif is 337 x 337 points.

It is very rare for me to have items in my shop that are neither antique nor vintage, but 'vintage style'. Sajou however are an exception to this rule.

Some of you will already be collectors of Sajou and be more than aware of this extraordinary French brand. Sajou produce haberdashery items made  in France to the highest standards (in some cases even produced on the original old machinery). Perfect for gifts and collectors, and for those of you unable to resist a quality that is seldom found in todays mass produced haberdashery products.

Sajou was created in 1828 by Jaques- Simon Sajou, selling haberdashery for embroidery, tapestry, lace, crochet and weaving. His pattern albums are sought after to this day by collectors worldwide. In 2005 the Sajou brand was purchased and revived by avid collector; Frederique Crestin- Billet. Many of the old designs have been faithfully reproduced and there are some new designs that have been added in the Sajou style.

I have other Sajou haberdashery items for sale in my shop so please do take the time to have a browse.

My textiles are largely sourced from Scotland, bringing the very best of vintage and antique Scottish heritage textiles for you to enjoy and treasure.
