Special digitally remastered and expanded two disc (CD + Region 0 DVD) 35th anniversary edition of the veteran British Hard Rockers' 1974 album comes with a crisp new remaster, and a host of collectable extras. The CD features the original album remastered, plus a clutch of tracks remixed by Glenn Hughes at Abbey Road Studios especially for this release. The DVD contains the original Quad mix of the album presented in both 5.1 surround sound and stereo. Stormbringer was the ninth studio album by Deep Purple, originally released in November 1974. (and featuring the Mark 3 line-up of the band that included David Coverdale on vocals and Glenn Hughes on bass) this album, much more prominently featured the soul and funk elements that were only hinted at on previous album Burn.

Der Kreis ist fast geschlossen – von den regulären und offiziellen Deep Purple-Alben der frühen EMI-Jahre 1968 bis 1976 fehlten bei der Katalog-Aufarbeitung bislang noch zwei Titel, »Stormbringer« von 1974, die zweite Studioscheibe der Mark-3-Besetzung mit David Coverdale und Glenn Hughes, sowie »Come Taste The Band«. Auf letztgenannte müssen wir noch etwas warten, aber »Stormbringer« wird das Laserlicht im Februar 2009 erblicken – und auch die Nadel, denn Vinyl ist ebenfalls angekündigt. Hinter dem überarbeiteten Artwork verbirgt sich im Fall der CD+DVD-Edition zum einen das remasterte Original-Album, dem auf der CD fünf Remix-Bonus Tracks hinzugefügt wurden. Zum anderen offeriert die DVD (eigentlich eine Audio-DVD mit Screen Images) die seinerzeit originale Quadrophonie-Abmischung des Albums, die jetzt für 5.1-Sound-Zwecke modifiziert wurde (DTS 48 / 24). Eine Stereo-Fassung in gleicher Bit-Qualität ist ebenfalls enthalten.
