Pricket and fluted dish are iron,
they are hand-made by a blacksmith, which helps date the angel to
circa 1800 or earlier; the angel is carved polychrome plaster;
the square base is wood painted to look like marble.
Bole (red clay) was applied to provide a smooth surface
for the gilding and to give the gold a rich red undertone.
18" to top of pricket; angel alone (head to toe) is about 11"
square base is 5x5"
Condition- Very good stable "display ready" condition - it is @ 200 or so years old,
wear is to be expected. There is some minor wear to gilding and cracks to paint;
the uplifted arm, seen from the back in this photo, is a bit uneven;
it was probably made that way:
And here at the feet, see the next photo, there are cracks in the paint,
which might be evidence of an old repair-- it's
possible this was off the base at some point long ago, and professionally restored;
if so, it's well done, completely stable, and not noticed on display:

Candle advice - These old prickets were made in the days of tallow or beeswax (soft) candles. Today's candles are much harder. Be gentle with these old candle-prickets; don't push a candle down on to the pricket, instead hollow out a hole into the bottom of the candle (remove the metal tab if necessary), then place the candle on the pricket. Voila! Let there be light!
Photos taken with daylight bulbs for accurate color; monitor colors may vary.
