Atmospheric 19th Century oil painting on canvas of a coastal landscape at sunset by George Hall Neale 1863 - 1940 . Wonderful use of impasto to accentuate the sunset over the rooftops. Painting in good condition, some craquleur and aged varnish. Signed and dated 1894. We are selling another painting by this artist - see other listings. Painting measures 12 1/2" x 20" and 17 1/2" x 25 1/2" in its good quality later gilt gallery frame. An excellent example of the artists work.
Neale studied at the Liverpool school of art and Academy Juliens, Paris. Exhibited at the Walker art gallery Liverpool 129, Royal academy 60, Royal Cambrian academy 14, ROI 9, Royal Society of Portrait Painters 10 and many more. He was married to the well known portrait painter Maud Hall.
