ON SALE.... FROM FRANCE, CAFÉ AMÉRICAIN DEVAN ESTUDIO (STUDENT) GYPSY JAZZ GUITAR

Welcome to the Classicguitar-Workshop in beautiful Arizona. Thank you for taking time to look at this excellent handcrafted Estudio Gypsy Jazz guitar from the workshop of Café Américain.

ON SALE FOR A LIMITED TIME, we have two left of the original 2015 Devan student to intermediate level Gypsy Jazz guitar. A shorter scale length instrument that is an excellent instrument to learn to play Gypsy Jazz and Swing.

The Devan model is a short scale (650mm) Bouche Ovale (oval-mouth) guitar for the player that wants a Django/Gypsy Jazz style guitar that is a lot of fun yet easy to play.  The neck is a little wider than our 670mm models with a very low action which makes this guitar very, very easy to play.

About Gypsy Jazz music, it evolved in Europe in the 1930s when French Django Reinhardt, playing a Maccaferri/Selmer guitar in smoke-filled Paris clubs, combined a Gypsy playing style with the jazz of Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington to produce a wonderful and inventive new form of music, Gypsy Jazz; also known in France as Jazz Manouche.

Today, the same Jazz Manouche is played worldwide, the tradition lives, and is continued by guitarists everywhere. And this easy to play guitar is made to get you started with this very enjoyable style.

About Café Américain, it is a small traditional workshop/company that produces a few hundred guitars a year, these guitars are beautiful, well made, and sound excellent.

Now about the guitar… the beautiful 2015 Devan model is our original easy-to-handle 650mm short scale guitar that measures 40mm across the lower bout.  It has a Bouche Ovale 21 fret fretboard, its design taken from the first French Maccaferri-Selmer guitar.

It has an easy action, driving sound, with the cutting tone you would expect from a Gypsy Jazz guitar. It is exceptional for the new or intermediate player who wants to play Swing or Jazz Manouche.

The soundboard is high-grade solid European Spruce, and the back and sides are Rosewood (this is a true Indian Rosewood for the ‘correct sound,’ not the imitation Asian Rosewood of other guitar makers.)  This guitar is made from the correct woods to give the true sound of French Maccaferri-Selmer Gypsy Jazz guitars.

Drive this guitar and with these woods you will get a great cutting sound or pull back and it will respond with a mellow tone.

The fret-board, floating mustache-bridge, and fret-head are made of Rosewood.  It has a leather-padded brass tail-piece and is strung with D'Addario Gypsy-Jazz strings.  Plus with the guitar I will include Gypsy Jazz music, both in TAB and standard notation.

And now a little about myself, I spend summers in France and each spring I attend the Musikmesse in Frankfurt, Germany, (Europe’s largest music trade-show,) to meet guitar makers and see their instruments.  Then, I am fortunate enough to travel Europe going to music festivals and guitar workshops looking for guitars.
