Description:
Rare WWI Era Royal Bavarian (German) Regimental Honor Merit Cross Medal. There is a thick rigid ribbon topper with a crown and a gold tone bar with specific unit information (helmet and crossed rifle is missing below this). From this topper hangs the gold tone Iron Cross-shaped medallion. One side says "Fur Konig Und Vaterland" (For the King and the Country) around a central crown. The other side says "In Treue Fest!" (In Steadfast Loyalty) around the crest or flag of Bavaria. In Treue Fest! was the motto of the Bavarian Army.

There are many variations of this medal, particularly the different regiments it was given to as acknowledged on the topper. This one says K.B.3.J.R.PR.KARL v. B.. I am relatively sure this translates to
Königlich Bayerisches 3. Infanterie-Regiment "Prinz Karl von Bayern" which translates to Royal Bavarian 3rd Infantry Regiment "Prince Karl von Bayern". Further, Prince Karl von Bayern to Prince Charles of Bavaria. Again the translation is tricky, but I believe it refers to Karl Theodor Maximilian August Prinz von Bayern (1795 - 1875) who was Commander in Chief of the Bavarian Army during the German War of 1866, and this is the same year the regiment adopted his name. The regiment can be traced back to 1698 and were finally dissolved in 1919 following WWI.

History: Royal Bavarian 3rd Infantry Regiment "Prince Karl von Bayern", last held at Augsberg, has a long and storied history. It was initially established in 1698. It was involved in the War of Spanish Succession (1701 - 1714), Austrian War of Succession (1740 - 1748) and Seven Years War. It was transferred to Bavaria in 1797. In 1806 it was transferred to Augsberg and deployed against Prussia and Russia and went to the Russian Campaign in 1812. As of 1866 it was determined to keep the name 'Prince Charles of Bavaria' based on his merits, or "Prince Karl of Bavaria". At the beginning of WWI in 1914 the regiment was mobilized and driven to the Western Front where they were involved in the Battle of Lorraine and First Battle of the Somme. After reorganization of the division they moved to the Eastern Front where they were involved at Verdun in 1916. In 1917 they were back to the Western Front and participated at Alsace, the Aisne, Flanders and German offensive of 1918. Having constantly been at the focal point of the fighting, the regiment lost more than 5000 men from 1914 - 1918. After the truce, demobilization occurred at Augsberg in late 1918 and early 1919.
The regiment was ultimately part of the 2nd Royal Bavarian Division. By May 1919 the regiment was dissolved.

Measurements: 3" long when in line. Rectangular ribbon top is 1 3/8" tall by 1 3/4" long. Medal itself is 1 7/16" square (penny in photo is shown for scale)

Condition:
Good to fair condition. It missing the small metal helmet and crossed rifle insignia beneath the ribbon bar opposite where the crown is. You can still see the silhouette of where it was as the ribbon is darker there. It is also in two pieces, but all that is missing is a small brass loop that connects the clasp of the ribbon and bail of the medal. The red felt on the reverse of the ribbon has pulled up at the bottom and it looks like perhaps a name was written on it. Surprisingly, the safety pin and clasp are original and are identical to other medals as the ribbons were handmade. Only minor cosmetic imperfections otherwise. General dust and fading to ribbon. Minor surface wear to medal. Please inspect the photos.

Shipped via USPS Media Mail with appropriate care... Thank YOU!

Payment
I have had to take precautions because of people not paying. You will have 4 days to pay, then an unpaid item case will be opened. From this point you will have another 4 days to pay. That's EIGHT total days, however if you don't pay the case will close and show on your Ebay record. At this time the item will be offered to the next highest bidder or re-listed. A case HAS to be opened to recoup selling fees.

Shipping
I only ship within the US or to eligible Countries through the Ebay Global shipping program (however I don't use this for all items). If it doesn't say I ship to your Country in shipping details, then I won't, no exceptions, sorry. The shipping service will depend on the buyers location and the package weight. I predominantly use Priority Mail unless an item qualifies for First Class, however I will use Parcel Select in some instances particularly if you live out West. I am not a business and I reuse boxes and packaging so my packages aren't always the prettiest, but I do spend a lot of time and effort in ensuring items are packed with care, handled fast and shipped using an expedited service whenever possible.

Bids/Offers
I will NOT end items early via accepting a buy it now price or even respond to people offering amounts in exchange for me ending the item early. If I am selling an item via auction it will not end prematurely unless I made a mistake in the listing or the item was lost/broken. Please keep in mind I like to use free shipping and shipping prices fluctuate quite a bit. This is a consideration during offers. I may sell an item cheaper to someone closer to me opposed to someone bidding out West because the shipping may be a lot cheaper.

Returns/Refunds
I offer returns on all items except for items that are being sold broken for parts/fix. You will have 14 days from the time you receive it to return it, no questions asked. If you simply don't like it or it doesn't fit then you are accountable for the return shipping. If i make an error in the listing (and I will from time to time) then I will pay for the shipping back to me. I will make mistakes. However, threatening to escalate cases etc. won't make the process any more enjoyable. I have been accused of all sorts of things while selling on this platform, but when I make a mistake in a listing or an item doesn't function properly YOU WILL BE FULLY REFUNDED and I will lose money on shipping to and fro.  Just return the item, I will refund you every time. I didn't get good feedback by deceiving people on purpose or taking short cuts

Feedback
I generally leave feedback AFTER the buyer. This is just a little extra confirmation that you received the item and you're happy with it. Regardless, many people still don't leave feedback but after a period of time (enough time where I can assume the item isn't getting returned) I will leave positive feedback whether you have or not.

I am not a business, but an individual who enjoys selling on Ebay very much. This is not my occupation, more a hobby. I source items from all over. Estate sales, garage sales, liquidations, auctions, consignments for friends. I do my best to keep buyers happy and them bidding risk free. If I make a mistake I will go out of my way to make things right and I believe my feedback is a testament to that. THANK YOU!
