DESCRIPTION:

These air cleaners are available in two heights, either 45mm or 85mm tall, and include a high flow filter element.  Kit comes with air cleaner top and bottom plates, high flow cotton gauze filter element, and carby to air cleaner base gasket

The cotton gauze style filter element is washable, similar to much more expensive brands like K&N, etc.  Designed to maximize performance and airflow, whilst still delivering good protection from dust and debris. 

Cotton gauze is the material of choice for aftermarket performance orientated air filters, which you can check out for yourself by doing a simple internet search.  Cotton gauze flows more than paper elements and is washable/oilable.

It is important when selecting an air filter for your carby that the height of the element is sufficient so the airflow into a ram tube (if fitted) is not restricted.  This would be a particular issue with the low profile 45mm tall units, a maximum ram tube height of 25mm should be used.  With the taller 85mm units, 62mm tall ram tubes will comfortably fit.

A blocked or clogged up air filter will increase fuel consumption and reduce airflow and engine power, as clogged filters increase the inlet manifold vacuum at any throttle opening.  This higher vacuum causes extra fuel to be delivered by the carby, similar to if the choke is constantly on.  This makes the air/fuel mixture richer than what it needs to be and costs both power and money.
