DESCRIPTION & NOTES: Pleasant landscape watercolor, heightened with white, 7 1/4″ h. x 9 1/2″ w. (sight), painted by listed artist William Gardner Blackwood (Scotland, Canada, b. 1892), signed lower left, titled in pencil verso “Carwatha Lake” (probably a mis-spelling of Kawartha Lake located in Ontario, Canada).

The lake on the left side of the picture surrounds a sparsely treed rise of land that juts from the right side and extends past the center of the painting; a distinct and recognizable feature of Ontario’s Cottage Country.

CONDITION: It is in Excellent Vintage Condition. Framed in Original Frame and Matted behind glass, there is some light discoloration to the mat commensurate with age. The watercolor retains an excellent strong color.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHY: BLACKWOOD, William Gardner. (Scotland, Canada, b. 1892) Born in Holly Bank, Kilcreggan, Dunbarton, Scotland. The eldest son of James Blackwood and Marjory Davidson, married Ethel Matilda Stroud, daughter of William Stroud. A painter by trade he emigrated to Quebec, Canada, 1927 on the ship “Athenia”, member of the Canadian Overseas Regimental Force, 1915 no. 946.
