This is a fabulous Deep Incised Brown and White Stripped Carved Wood
Handled Shield that comes from Cameroon,in the Democratic Republic of
the Congo. In the country of Cameroon shields were used in battle, in
ceremonial dances, and as a status symbol, and now more so as decorative
commemorative reminders of past important battles. The beautiful deep
incised lines have tribal significance. The shields have been
beautifully crafted from a native hard wood. The size, shape, and
material were determined by its function in battle. The pattern was used
to identify the tribe of the wielder. This shield features a precisely
carved symmetrical design that creates a grooved relief on the face. A
beautifully designed and abstract
shield that would be a wonderful addition to your collection or home.
