Welcome to my listing for a somewhat unique Meyer-Optik Gorlitz PRIMAGON f4.5 35mm wide angle lens in very unusual M39 Paxette mount with 10 blade preset aperture serial number 2931300.

Overview: An interesting copy of the classic aluminium bodied wide prime lens produced by Meyer-Optik in Eastern Germany from 1955 through to 1963 when this lens was replaced by the slightly wider 30mm Lydith. Up to now I have only ever seen these lenses in Exakta, M42, Altix and Praktina mounts, so was mystified when I acquired this lens to find it had been modified to M39. Unable to focus on any camera until one day, I tried it on one of my Paxette bodies and there it was, perfect infinity focus! Constructed with four optical elements the Primagon produces alluring images with a distinctive vintage rendering.

Overall Condition: A good working copy with some signs of use to the aluminium body and a little paint loss on the outer front bezel. The focusing scale and aperture markings are all clear. Supplied with generic lens caps.

Please study the photographs as these form part of this description and depict the external condition accurately.

Optical Condition: Good with some fine cleaning scratches to the front optic but nothing that you would notice in use, there is a little internal dust that you would expect for a lens of this age but as you can see from some of the sample photographs that I have even shot into the sun without major flare or haze issues!

Mechanical Operation: Again good, the 10 aperture blades are clean with no aperture clicks and the sprung loaded preset ring is also smooth, focus control is also very even and consistent.

Real World Use: I do love the look of this lens, great colours and acceptably sharp when used wide, sharpness does fall off towards the edges but this is part of the charm of shooting with old manual lenses I feel. When stopped down it is pretty good across the frame but this lens excels open with it's lovely bokeh which is almost like a painting with highlights forming small bubbly circles. With a close focus distance of just over 1 ft (0.4 meters) this lens is extremely versatile and is certainly one of my Meyer-Optik favourites from the 1950s.

** PLEASE NOTE** This lens will not focus on SLR cameras, only M39 mount cameras and adaptors with a "Paxette" 15.2mm extension will work or on a Braun Paxette of course!

Sample Images: Most the images below are shot wide open at f4.5 on a Sony A7s with the flower image being shot on a Panasonic GH4 both with M39 adaptors and a 15.2mm Paxette extension ring.
