A WHOLE ZINC OF FINCHES (Easy Action EARS 007)
Originally issued in 2005. This wonderfully eclectic box set was the first in a string of highly regarded releases from Easy Action Records. Zinc Of Finches covers the years 1967 through until the summer of 1970.
Includes a truly historical John Peel Perfumed Garden Show from August 1970. The last ever show on Radio London. Featuring lots of Marc. The 2nd and 5th Disc cover all manner of demo’s outtakes, live performances and interviews. The 3rd and 4th disc feature 3 concerts from 1969. Sound quality on these discs is good audience recording. What they lack in ‘Hi-fi’ sound quality is amply made up for with renderings of many of the best Tyrannosaurus Rex songs. Includes the unreleased For ‘The Lion & The Unicorn’. As if all that wasn’t enough there’s a 5 track DVD featuring a nice selection of footage from the late 60’s.
The box also comes complete with 36 page full colour booklet. Containing many rare and unreleased pictures, along with an extensive essay. To round things off there’s a nice facsimile copy of the 1969 London concert programme.
All in all a collectors delight. Perhaps not the best item for someone newly discovering the wonders of Marc Bolan, but most certainly a treasure trove of obscurities and gems, all recorded close on to half a century ago............
