This lens appears to have received relatively little actual use and has clearly been exceptionally well cared for, as evidenced by the condition of its mount and by its generally exceptional physical condition. The lens is nearly indistinguishable from new in appearance, very rare, as the finishes used on these AF-D era lenses tend to quickly show wear even with careful use and handling. Operationally, it is perfect. Zoom and focus action are smooth and consistent throughout their ranges, as on a new lens. AF is proved consistently accurate in my testing, and the lens produces crisp, contrasty images at all focal lengths. Be sure to view the attached photos in the enlarged format, and please feel free to ask any questions prior to purchase. This is a legitimately exceptional example of its type. You will not be disappointed.

Nikon's 28-105mm AF-D Macro Zoom has begun to develop a reputation as a hidden gem for use on FX-format camera bodies thanks to its compactness, its versatility and its excellent overall sharpness.  It has a very usable macro feature that for many photographers will preclude the need for a dedicated macro lens and is capable of overall image quality that is exceptional at its price level.  Although there are many Nikon lenses that can be considered viable choices for use as standard zooms, each one of them has weaknesses that compromise it seriously in at least one regard.  While many have broader zoom ranges or larger max apertures, the relatively modest design parameters of the 28-105 enable its combination of optical superiority and compact size and make it, for some photographers, among the best choices available at any price. The difficulty is in finding an excellent example, as most available on the used market have received fairly heavy use or have been abused at some point. This typically shows itself in heavy or inconsistent zoom action indicating serious internal wear or damage, often without any visible external evidence.

Included in this listing is the lens with front and rear caps as shown. This is a US-market lens and is consequently eligible for service by Nikon USA if ever required.

Please note that this is a screw-drive lens and does need to be used with a camera body that has an internal focus motor in order to retain AF function.
