It is powered by your preamp's phantom power 48V.

THIS IS AN AMATEUR CONNECTION WITH UNBRANDED BLACK XLR CONNECTOR TO PROVIDE LOW COST PRODUCT THERE IS THE PRO VERSION LISTED ALSO WHICH IS MADE WITH NEUTRIK LIFE TIME CONNECTOR QUALITY. DO CONSIDER THE EXTRA COST FOR A SERIOUS USAGE.
In a studio it is great on ribbon mics, it seems that I sold a lot for SM7b..dynamics also.
Note that if you have World class preamps like 1073 clones, API, quadeight..you want to drive these well instead of using it at unity with a booster between. Still it is superb on ribbon where you need a lot of gain keeping low Signal/noise ratio that way.
Shure Beta 87A-C are LIVE condenser Microphone. You can turn your SM58 or Beta58 or Beta57s dynamics Microphone onto Active High Sensitive Microphones on stage with this booster.

The Best practice is to plug the booster to microphone with short cable lead & longer cable to preamp to avoid strain and mechanical stress to this barrel witch will guaranty long life .
It is THE cheapest product yet ULTRA CLEAN and straight forward!. Produces 19 to 25db ( depending on Microphone Impedance, Preamp input impedance and load relationship..)
It will accept low impedance vintage ribbon mic like 30 ohms, modern higher Z and vintage to modern low to High Preamp Impedance also. It is very versatile basically.

I own a Neve 517 and if you read page 4-5-6 of this Rupert Neve manual, it also provides invaluable information on Microphone - Preamplifier impedance relationship.
The microphone input is free from phantom power leak with this product and will guarranty safety.
If you need more than one booster it will be pair or quad matched free of charge.
