Emg pickups are rated for up to 27 Volts but only part of the pickups potential is used. Boosting the volts increases clarity and tone of your sound.

As you can see from the picture the mod is a little smaller than a 9v battery so you have more room in the battery cavity. No more cramped space getting your battery to fit.
