Our Factory in Karnataka, India, employs 22 local women in a very deprived area of the state, many of whom have found themselves in difficult situations.  In India it is traditional for the man to work whilst the woman stays at home and looks after the family.  In families where the man can’t provide in the traditional manner, it can prove very difficult for families to cope. That’s why we offer much needed work for women in these difficult situations. 

We train and provide all the women with the skills to become safe and effective happy tailors; allowing a 10am start and flexible working hours so that children and work can be managed.  We currently meet all Fair Trade requirements for pay, treatment of workers, working hours (7hr working day).  This does mean that our production costs are higher than other manufacturers, but we believe that it is essential for everybody in the supply chain should be treated equally and fairly.
