Grateful Dead : Europe '72 : The Complete Recordings : Show #21 : 5/25/1972 : Lyceum Theatre - London, England ( ENG ) : 4 CD : Scott McDougall Cover Art : Brand New / Factory-Sealed !

The 2nd to Last ... & Smokin'-Hot !!! 5/25/72 Grateful Dead performance at the Lyceum Theatre in London, England on the Europe '72 Tour !!! ... May 25th, 1972 ( 5/25/1972 ) : 4-CD Set !!!!

Grateful Dead Fans who Love & even Live-for! that Good Ol' Grateful Dead sound... and at its Finest!  Offered here indeed is the Smokin'!!! 5/25/72 Lyceum Show ( Lyceum Theatre, London, England ) - the 21st Show (& 2nd to Last/Final) - of the Magical Grateful Dead Europe '72 Tour!!!  And... if just perhaps 5/25/72 is one of the four (4) "Legendary" Europe '72 Shows - that... you have yet to hear?  Well then... Oh-Wow!!! are your ears in for a serious improvisational live-music treat!!!  As you might well expect - considering the time & era of Grateful Dead Music we are talking about here... the Band is Red-Hot right out of the gate for this Monumental Tour...  but as this amazing 4-CD Set from 5/25/72 well-proves, maybe even more-so at the tail end!  Seven (7) shows were played at the Academy of Music in New York City in Late-March (3/21-28/72), and if you have heard pieces, parts or all of that magnificent run - then you already know how "effective" that NYC run was as the ideal "Tour Warm-Up" for this Big-Time Europe '72 stretch that was right around the corner.  Europe '72 kicked-off at Wembley Empire Pool (London) on 4/7/72, as part of a two-night stand.  And from there it was 20 More Shows (22 in Total) stretching from London, to Newcastle upon Tyne (England), to Copenhagen, to Aarhus (Denmark), back to Copenhagen, to Bremen (Germany), to Dusseldorf (W. Germany), to Frankfurt (100 Year Hall!), to Hamburg, to Paris, to the Bickershaw Festival (Wigan, England), to Amsterdam, to Rotterdam, to France, to Luxembourg, to Munich... and then back again to London for a final 4-night stand at the Lyceum!  Including this here Smokin'! Show from May 25th!  In my personal opinion - along with I hope! many other Dead Fans... I think this just might be a little overshadowed by the popularity & previous commonality of the 5/26/72 (last Lyceum night) - and, naturally - the Europe '72 Closing Show.  This Show here on 5/25... just has "It" - and the Band just Completely! delivers the goods.  And, at least to me in this particular G.D. context -- it means copious! amounts of consistent Energy!... Fluid-ness - and just a keen 'together' sense of pop & flow... where the Band just seems to read the next members step, virtually ahead of this timing structures, and bars too - if I may.  Everybody is just thinking ahead in an Outstanding! musical-way.  I mean looking at almost any Europe '72 Setlist - is almost like a kid walking into the candy store (kinda like the Ice Cream Kid!! - Hah!)... but - this 4-CD Set just goes to show with Perfection! -- just how Thick! & thorough... a Europe '72 Setlist can be.  Basically, offering it all!  Well, you know... 'all' is a lot in any era of Good Ol' Grateful Dead... but - wow... this is so-just about as close as perfect gets.  See... the Band was just getting better on this Europe '72 -- at everything!... even mastering the 'perfecto' Set List!!!  Hah!  At least in my mind...  Promised! out of the gate, met by a spunky Brown-Eyed Women out of Garcia!  Then... Big Boss Man! (one of the Hottest! of the Tour!!) -- Black Throated, Jed, and... yep - you guessed it --- Mr. Charlie!!!  Can't miss that!?!  Then... a Heater!!! of a China > Rider!!! in the 8/9 spot - with a treblesque! Bobby McGee to follow.  Then, Disc 2 kicks off with a Beauty! of a Good Lovin' ... Playin'!  And, what a call after... Brokedown Palace!  Things get so exploratory on the back-end of Playin' - that they could have even segued!!?!  So-hot!... and then followed by a Whalloping! Casey Jones!!!  Uncle ... Big Railroad! ... Chinatown ... Ramble One Rose!!!  And, if that's not enough 'good news'?  Well... here's some more - because you've got 2 more Discs to go!!!  Dang... God Bless the Europe '72!!!!!  Hah!  And, actually... Disc 3 really could get no-better - and... neither could Disc 4!!!!  Disc 3 >>> Uncle John's > Wharf Rat > Dark Star!!! > Sugar Magnolia  See?!  And, for Disc 4? >>> Comes A Time > El Paso > Sitting On Top! > GDTRFB > Saturday Night!!!  Wow...... I mean what else can be said?  There has always! been a lot of 'talk' in Deadheadland - about these Lyceum Shows... the Final Four !!!!  But, just like I've always-said... give 5/25 a try - and it will not! let you down.  Some say this one is even the best 'of' them all.  All in all... I think the general-consensus says that 5/26/72 can't be topped - and takes (& eats!) the cake overall -- but, not so fast on giving 5/25/72 it's due... because it's a Dandy!!!  No need to hide in any Phone Booth for this one... cuz it's time to get out & shake your shoes!!!  Whoa!!!!! ... Enjoy this Europe '72 'The Complete Recordings Beauty!!!
