A 1960's Jose Luis Velasquez Classical Guitar. There is a long tradition of Velasquez guitar making in Paracho, Michoacan, Mexico, and this is a good quality guitar from that family. It's made of some sort of solid rosewood, book-matched on sides and back. The top looks like solid close-grain cedar. After 50 years, there are still no cracks in the rosewood. The top has one crack, up on the small bout are. There are are various scuffs and small dings all over. It looks like there's also a small closed check or crack near the bass end of the bridge. The fretboard and bridge are dark rosewood. This guitar is very light weight - 1285 grams. The neck set and action are good, with some forward set in the neck. Nut width 52mm = about 2 1/8". Scale 650mm = about 25 7/8". Lots of saddle for action adjustment. Bone saddle and bone nut. There is some forward distortion in the top from age and tension. Nice projection and good, even dynamics. This is a guitar you can take anywhere without worrying like you would about your Ramirez, De Voe, Oribe, or Ruck. It needs new strings. No case.
